Healthcare is one of the most complex systems we operate as a society, and AI is now being introduced into it faster than the workflows and organizations around it can absorb.
David Quam MD, a family physician of nearly 30 years who spent 15 years in executive leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente, now serves as Professor and Director of Loyola Marymount University’s Healthcare Systems Engineering Master’s program. He will make the case for why systems engineering is essential to healthcare and especially to AI adoption.
After briefly surveying where AI is being deployed in clinical and operational healthcare today, he’ll focus on the systems engineer’s role in integrating AI into real workflows: mapping current-state processes, defining requirements, architecting for safe integration, and managing the organizational change that determines whether an AI initiative sticks.
